Term 3 is nearing to an end and we are busy finalising allour concert preparations. Costumes have all been ordered and many have even arrived. There are some very excited children right now. It’s really lovely to see such enthusiasm!

 Important dates: -

Theatre Technical Rehearsal - Tuesday 27thNovember 8am - 2.30pm - The Art House Wyong - $23

Concert- Sunday 2ndDecember 1.30pm - The Art House Wyong (arrive 12.30pm)

Final fees and costume payment - Saturday 10th November

Last day of classes for 2018 - Saturday 1stDecember 2018.

Classes resume 2019 - Tuesday 29th January 2019.

Please note the change in date of our theatre technical rehearsal. Unfortunately, there was a clash of dates and we have had to change to a day earlier -Tuesday 27th November.

Please arrive at the concert one hour early, with makeup and hair for the first dance already completed - 12.30pm. Parents will be advised of running order closer to the day.

Fees and costume balances: All money owing on costumes, chocolates, and fees for classes right through to the last class of the year (1stDec), as well as dress rehearsal and technical theatre rehearsal fees are due in full by Saturday 10th November.

Dress Rehearsal: The dress rehearsal will be held at Gosford High School Hall (Racecourse Rd, Gosford) on Sunday 18th November, commencing at 9.00am. Please arrive at 8.30am to be ready for a 9am start.
We will start with the finale (this involves every student taking a bow) and will follow in order of the concert program, except for our babies. We will do our best to bring the babies performances forward, so they can leave earlier. This will all depend on how organised everyone is and how quickly everyone changes for their next dance. Please don’t be late as it holds up the whole day.  Students should dress for their first dance (not finale costume) at dress rehearsal.

Cost for dress rehearsalis $15.00 per student - payable by 10th November.
This day is not a watching day - only mothers may attend to dress their child. Please arrange babysitting for siblings on this day. This will be a full hair, makeup and costume rehearsal. Please ask your child’s teacher for makeup requirements.  No jewellery, glitter or nail polish to be worn. Please remove earrings.

Photos: Photos will be taken at the dress rehearsal. We are using Winkipop Media again this year. They will photograph portraits at dress rehearsal as well as onstage photos at our concert. Ordering information will be available soon.

Theatre Technical Rehearsal: The technical rehearsal will be held on Tuesday 27th November at The Art House Theatre at Wyong (next to Wyong Court House) at 8.00am. Please come to the stage door at 7.45am so we can call the roll and enter as a group. The stage door will be closed after we enter. Cost of this rehearsal is $23.00 per child - payable by 10th November. All students must attend this compulsory rehearsal(everyone was informed earlier in the year that participation in the concert comes with the condition that students attend this compulsory theatre rehearsal).

During the technical rehearsal we work on staging and spacing of students in their dance; and help students to learn their entrance and exits positions throughout their dance. As they often run on and off stage, and sometimes even around to the other side of the stage before coming back onstage again. This all takes practice to understand how far and fast they need to travel, especially as The Art House Theatre’s stage is so large. We also work on the finale and spacing it on this stage. We set our lighting design at this rehearsal to allow students to adjust to the lighting. From onstage the lighting is very bright and with the darkened theatre it’s important that our students know what to expect. They also learn how far forward to finish so when the curtain drops they are behind it and learn to wait until it’s completely down before exiting the stage. As you can see this rehearsal is important in so many ways. I realise this may be difficult for some parents to organise around work commitments with it being a weekday, but this rehearsal is an essential part of concert preparation. We unfortunately have no say in allocation of our rehearsal date as the theatre is very heavily booked. You may be able to arrange car-pooling with another parent or ask grandparents/friends to help with transport.
The babies’ groups will finish at 9.30am; 8/u groups will finish at 11.00am. All others will finish at 2.30pm.  Sorry no parents watching on this day. Due to security rules at the theatre parents will not be allowed to enter the backstage of the theatre on this day. Please drop off and collect your child promptly at the stage door, where they will be marked on and off the roll again before leaving. Teachers will take the students backstage in the morning and bring them back to the stage door at their stated finish times. Please try to be prompt collecting your child at the stage door. Teachers need to resume rehearsals and can't wait at the stage door for too long. If you can please try to be on time for pick-up, it will be much appreciated.
The Technical rehearsal is not a costume rehearsal. Children should wear full class uniform to this rehearsal, including dance shoes, leotard, hair in bun (girls), etc.
Please label inside shoes and clothing as we often have lost property left behind. If it’s labelled, we can ensure we give it back to the right owner. Being so close to the concert we don’t want items needed for the performance being lost.

Costumes: Many costumes are now complete or nearing completion. Some prices will soon go on the noticeboard and the rest will follow as soon as we receive them. All costumes must be paid by cash only, so we can directly and promptly pay dressmakers.
Please do not pay for costumes in the same envelope as class fees, nor by direct deposit into my account.
Remember to deduct the $40.00 deposit you have paid previously from the total cost listed on the board. If you haven’t paid the costume deposit, then please pay the full amount listed.
All class fees, dress and technical rehearsals, chocolate fundraising and costume payments need to be finalised by 10th November and prior to collecting costumes.  To take the financial pressure off all payments becoming due by 10th November, parents are welcome to start making small extra payments in advance on either fees or costumes. Please make sure envelopes are clearly labelled explaining your wish to do this and remember to keep all costume and class fees separated.

DVD Orders: We are using Gerald Webb at livewebvideo, the same company as last year, to film this years' concert. The cost is still $50.00 each, plus $5 postage. Gerald will record the concert and presentation/awards following the concert. Order envelopes will be available soon. These orders are to be handed to your child's teacher any time prior to the concert. If you don’t pay for postage, then your copy will not be available for collection until classes resume next year. No cameras or videos are allowed in The Art House Theatre.

Dressers at concert: It is important that we have enough helpers especially for our younger students and those with multiple dances and quick changes. Obviously, our younger students will need lots of help with dressing and hair. I will be asking for volunteers. These can be mothers, aunts, grandmothers, older siblings, friends to help with this task.
Last year we had 11 helpers, but we could really use a few more than this. Senior students will be able to assist when they are free but will also be performing and changing themselves. If you can help or have a friend, or relative who may be able to help please let me know as soon as possible.
These volunteers will be assigned with dressing specific groups of students, not just their own child. For example, we may have several people dressing under 8-year-old students; several dressing under 10’s; some assisting the 6/u children; a few helping with those students who have quick changes, and so on. This will all be worked out in more detail as the time nears.
All students will need to arrive with their makeup completed as well as their hair done in the hairstyle needed for their first dance. We will also be limiting hairstyle changes between dances to help speed the process of dressing for the next dance.
At this time, I really need to know who will be willing to help backstage. All helpers who are dressing students backstage at the concert are invited to watch the theatre technical rehearsal at the Art House on Tuesday 27th November as our guest. This way they will still be able to view our students in this lovely venue.
Please consider helping or possibly you may know someone who would be willing to help usbackstage with this task.  If you can help please respond by email: chryl_dncn@yahoo.com.au or phone 43561999.

Backstage Access at Concert: Access will be strictly limited to helpers who are dressing, students, and teachers only. This is a security precaution and a condition of hire. Nobody will be allowed access backstage once the stage doors are closed and the concert begins. All students will need to stay until the end of the concert and there is no access backstage during interval.

Chocolate Fundraising: We are now finishing our chocolate fundraiser. Those who’ve not already done so please return all outstanding chocolate money. The first box each student sells is used for trophies for every child, as well as awards. Each additional box sold, will raise $24 towards your child’s costume. (Each box totals $60 worth of chocolates and we pay Cadbury $36 to buy the chocolates). I won’t know each student’s profit raised towards costumes until all money has been returned. A very big thank you to Diane Pank who has organised the running of this fundraiser.

Shoes, Accessories and Hairstyles: A list will soon be placed on the noticeboard board regarding hairstyles, and shoe requirements for all dances. I am just waiting for final word from teachers as they see costumes nearing completion. For all other needs please see your child's teacher. Dress rehearsal is with hair curled (if required for your child's dance). No jewellery or nail polish is to be worn for dress rehearsal/ concerts. Please don't let your child eat or drink in their costumes.

No students are allowed in the foyer at any time at the concert. This includes before the show and during interval. They must remain backstage the entire time.
There is no access through the door that connects the backstage and foyer. Its use is for theatre staff only and will be locked.
Please remember to keep the dressing rooms tidy. We must tidy our own mess after the concert, as a condition of hire. It would be very helpful if each age group could tidy their own dressing area. Last year a few people stayed behind with the teachers to help tidy up. This made the task so much easier for us all and I thank those people. If everyone can help a little that would make it even easier.

Thank you: I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Nicole Angell for all her tireless support when organising our uniform orders and running the Entertainment book fundraiser.  With the help of mothers like Nicole helping with uniforms and Diane helping with chocolate fundraising, everything runs smoothly. Thank you to both ladies.

Concert Tickets: Tickets will go on sale Friday 2nd November.

The tickets will be available to purchase online, in person at The Art House box office, &phone: 43351485. The box office hours are 10.00am - 5.30pm weekdays.  Adults: $45; Pensioner $40;   Child: $35

As The Art House is a larger venue we will have one show only this year. It will commence at 1.30pm Sunday 2nd December. Tickets will sell quickly with just the one show, so be sure to get in fast so you don’t miss out!

If you have any queries regarding rehearsals or the concert please ask your child's teacher or call Cheryl on 43561999. You can also send a message through our Facebook page or by email. Looking forward to our 33rd Annual concert and our secondtime at the lovely Art House Theatre.

Classes will finish on Saturday 1st December 2018 and resume on Tuesday 29th January 2019.

Cheryl

Several of our senior ballet students are preparing for their major exams in the upcoming Sydney session. This will be held from May-June. They are also attending the RAD Autumn workshops during the school holidays. Good luck to these hard-working students!

Our new adult’s tap class on Wednesday evenings is very popular and from all accounts everyone is loving this class. It’s great to see many parents of existing students joining in all the fun. Now they can see why their children love dancing!

Cancelled Classes:-
*No classes over the entire Easter break. This includes Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday. Sunday private lessons will also be cancelled. Happy Easter to all!
*Anzac Day classes will also be cancelled on Wednesday 25th April.
Please note that classes continue throughout all school holidays, except for the Christmas holidays.

Term 1 Watching Days:-

Friday 13th April - Grade 2, and 10/u jazz.
Saturday 14th April - Baby ballet and baby jazz, all other jazz classes, hip hop, acro, grades 1, 3, 4 & 5 ballet, contemporary.

Please do not ask to view classes other than the above. I would like to remind parents to keep all noise to a minimum during the abovementioned classes; and to keep siblings seated quietly, or kindly take them outside so as not to distract the classes.

Fees: -
Many people are already starting to fall behind in dance fees. Please make sure that all overdue fees are paid now. If you are paying by the term, please remember to include payment for the school holidays (no charge for the public holidays due to cancelled classes).
All fees are payable even when students are absent, unless if we have cancelled them. This includes if they are sick, on holidays or simply unable to attend.
Fees are to be paid weekly, monthly or by the term. If paying monthly or by term it is to be at the beginning of that period - the first week of the month or term. Please pay all fees in a clearly marked envelope, including your child’s name, classes being paid for, and the date/s you paid. Please include correct change in your fee envelope, as teachers do not carry change. Any overpayment will be credited to your child’s next class. Any fees outstanding by more than 2 weeks will incur a 10% surcharge. Failure to pay fees in arrears by more than 6 weeks will result in students being excluded from classes and/or private lessons. If there are any problems with fee payment, please see Cheryl for an alternative payment schedule.

Newsletters:
Everyone should have received the first newsletter and all new students our Guidelines and Policies note, along with the new enrolment form. All new families were asked to carefully read these notes and complete the enrolment form. However, many student’s forms have not been returned yet, kindly return as soon as possible. If you’ve misplaced your form please ask a teacher for a new one, or it can also be downloaded from our website.
We have also updated our website to include more detailed and important information including the above policies of CWDA and extra uniform details. Please check to see if you’re up to date with this information. Newsletters will be available on our website to keep you updated with any events happening within the studio. A lot of time and effort goes into the newsletters so please ensure you read them carefully and take note of important dates.
We also display our newsletters and other important information on our noticeboard, and upload them to our Facebook page. It is important that all parents and students are well informed about any upcoming events or important news.

Facebook web address: www.facebook.com/cherylwarwickdanceacademy

Uniform and Grooming – I’d like to request that parents please ensure your child has the correct uniform. New students are given a grace period of a few weeks before purchasing the uniform. All students also need to have hair that is tied up and off their face. Ballet students must wear hair in a bun with fringes pinned back. Students are also required to wear dance shoes for class.
If ordering new uniform items such as jackets, shorts, crop tops and t-shirts please place the order with Nicole Angell (Caitlin’s mum). Further ordering information is on our Facebook page. Nicole’s phone number is: - 0410 531 912. A very big thank you to Nicole for all her help with the ordering of these uniforms!
Information for other uniform items such as shoes, leotards, character shoes can be found on our website. There’s also a uniform list you can download and print.
Please note that Flight Dance Supplies have now closed their Tuggerah store. The closest stores now are Erina Danzwear and Dancestuff at East Gosford (Dancestuff are not a stockist of our Bloch ballet shoes).

I’d like to remind everyone that under no circumstance is there is to be any food brought into the waiting room or studio. Food is to be eaten outside before entering the studio. Students will be asked to take food outside if they bring it into the building. This also includes soft drinks and slushies, etc. Water is the only drink to be brought to class.

Concert and rehearsal dates:-
Dress rehearsal and photo day - Sunday 18th November
Theatre rehearsal - Wednesday 28th November 8.30-3pm
Concert - Sunday 2nd December

I realise these dates are a long way off but it will help parents to keep these days free. All students participating in the concert must attend both compulsory rehearsal days -including the theatre rehearsal. This will allow parents time to arrange work rosters or someone to drive their child to and from the rehearsal.

I hope you all enjoy the upcoming watching days!
Kind Regards,
Cheryl

Newsletters: All new students to our school are reminded to please check our website from time to time for updates and newsletters www.cherylwarwickdanceacademy.com.au
If anyone has any queries please email me via the link on our website, or if urgent call on 43 561999.

CWDA Facebook Page: Please Like and share our Facebook page. There is a link on our website. We regularly post reminders, updates, and photos and it’s a great way to keep informed. You’ll need to Like regularly to ensure you always receive the posts on your timeline.

Enrolment Form: I’d like to request all new students ensure you return a completed enrolment form to your teacher please. Existing students who have moved or changed contact details are asked to fill out a new form too please. You can print a copy of the registration form from our website. Please read carefully our “Guidelines and Policies” before completing and handing to a teacher.

Uniform: New students wanting to purchase our uniform can find all relevant uniform information on our website. This can be downloaded and printed for your convenience.
Duckies are the sole supplier of CWDA singlets, crop tops, t-shirts, shorts, 3/4 pants, jazz pants and jackets. Orders need to be placed with Nicole Angell (Caitlin’s mum) on 041 531912 and payment must be handed to her before the order can be placed with Duckies. There’s a price list for these uniform items on the noticeboard. A very big thank you to Nicole for organising uniform orders.
Students purchasing shoes and our leotards can do so from Flight Dance Supplies (Tuggerah), Erina Danzwear; or Dance Stuff (East Gosford). Please note that pink leather ballet shoes must be the Bloch brand and split-sole are preferred. Please do not purchase other brands as they are not an accepted part of our uniform.
Pointe shoes are Gaynor Minden brand and can be purchased from Dance Boutique at Cardiff.

New Uniform Items: Duckies are now able to make to order new long trackpants to match our jackets. They will be made from the same fabric as the jackets and are ideal for colder weather and for eisteddfods. These long pants will only be made to order, so please allow sufficient time when ordering for competitions and before winter. All soloists are expected to wear these pants and jackets when representing our school.

Concert 2018: The concert in 2018 will be held at The Art House theatre at Wyong on Sunday 2nd December. Please mark this date in your calendar.

Timetable: Please ensure you’ve read the new timetable for 2018. There are some slight changes for this year, including the introduction of a Boys Hip Hop class. We’d love to encourage any interested boys to try a couple of classes to see if they like hip hop. No previous experience is necessary. Please let us know if interested.

I’d like to encourage our jazz and tap students to consider taking ballet classes. To be a serious dancer, ballet is an essential tool in gaining the necessary technique for all other dance styles. It also teaches poise, good posture and self-discipline, all valuable assets to have in life.

Private Lessons: CWDA offers private lessons to students for solos, duos and trios. We believe students benefit from private lessons as they receive individual attention, gain extra confidence and increase their ability, skills and performance qualities. Students MUST do weekly classes to be eligible for private lessons.

Please remember to keep the waiting room noise to a minimum this year, as the noise is a distraction to teachers and students. Also there is to be no food brought into the waiting room at any time, this includes drinks and slushies. Students are asked to bring only water to class.

The following are a few points to remember for those new to the school:-
1. Please park at rear of the studio at all times (main studio).
2. Parents are asked not to wait upstairs while lessons are in progress. We need to keep noise to a minimum, so as not to disrupt lessons (main studio).
3. Watching days for parents are at the end of term one and two. Please watch the notice board and newsletters for these dates. There are no watching days in terms 3 or 4, as we prepare for the exams and concert.
4. All fees must be paid up to date at all times. Please put all fees in an envelope with name and date.
5. Fees are payable even if your child is absent.
6. We love to discuss your child's progress. But please realise we have the next class to begin and need to keep these discussions brief.
7. All siblings of students must be supervised by their parents at all times when in the waiting room (main studio). Please keep them off the stairs, away from windows, toilets, and don’t allow them to run around or slam the doors. Similarly it’s the responsibility of parents to ensure your child is sitting quietly while waiting for their class to start.

All pre-ordered DVDs of last years' concert will be available for collection at the studio after classes resume.

Referral program: Your referrals are the biggest compliment we can receive, and we certainly appreciate them! When you refer your friends to CWDA, we will give you a special discount off your fees.
Details: - Refer a friend and earn free dance classes.
Encourage one of your friends to sign up for classes (must be a new student). They get a $25.00 discount, and you also receive a $25.00 credit towards your classes, after they have completed and paid for 2 months of classes. Refer as many friends as you like, and you’ll receive $25 credit towards your fees for each referral.

Wishing everyone a happy year of dancing,
Cheryl.
